Masam Demining Initiative Clears 3,166 Explosives Across Yemen Last Week
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s Masam project cleared 3,166 explosive items in Yemen during the first week of February, including 2,134 pieces of unexploded ordnance, 1,027 anti-tank mines, and five anti-personnel mines, in multiple governorates identified as high-risk areas.
Masam teams have been operating across Aden, Hodeidah, Hadramout, Hajjah, Lahj, Marib, Shabwah, and Taiz, removing mines and unexploded ammunition that threaten civilians, infrastructure, and basic services, as part of Saudi Arabia’s wider humanitarian work in Yemen through KSrelief.

In Hadramout Governorate, survey and clearance teams in Al-Mukalla District removed 1,613 unexploded ordnance items and 619 anti-tank mines, while in Aden Governorate they cleared 254 unexploded items and 200 anti-tank mines, reducing reported hazards along roads and near populated zones.
Operations in Taiz Governorate focused on several front-line districts, where teams in Al-Mokha District cleared six items of unexploded ordnance and two anti-tank mines, removed 46 unexploded items in Dhubab District, and lifted 29 unexploded items plus three anti-personnel mines from Salou District.
In Hajjah Governorate, Masam teams working in Midi District removed 171 unexploded ordnance items, 18 anti-tank mines, and two anti-personnel mines, while in Lahj Governorate they cleared 12 unexploded items and three anti-tank mines in Al-Mudharabah District and one unexploded item in Tuban District.
Further north and east, clearance teams in Marib Governorate lifted one anti-tank mine in Ragwan District and 181 anti-tank mines in Marib District, and in Shabwah Governorate they removed one unexploded ordnance item in Asaylan District, supporting safer movement for residents and aid workers.
In Hodeidah Governorate, Masam recorded the clearance of three anti-tank mines in Hays District and one unexploded ordnance item in Al-Khawkhah District, bringing the cumulative total cleared by the Masam project since its launch to 540,671 explosive items planted across Yemeni territory.
Saudi Arabia continues mine clearance efforts in Yemen through KSrelief’s Masam project, which aims to reduce casualties from legacy explosives, improve civilian safety in affected governorates, and support conditions in which Yemeni communities can restore daily life with fewer direct threats from hidden munitions.
