Marriage In Contemporary Art: A Night Of A Lifetime Opens At SAMoCA At Jax

SAMoCA at Jax in the Jax District in Diriyah is hosting a new group exhibition titled "A Night of a Lifetime," bringing together more than 30 artists from Saudi Arabia, the wider Arab region and international contemporary art circles, with a focus on wedding celebrations and their social meanings.

Acting CEO of the Museums Commission Ibrahim Alsanousi said, "We are pleased to present the exhibition A Night of a Lifetime at SAMoCA at Jax as a platform that allows audiences to reflect on marriage as a unifying human theme that highlights the diversity of cultural and social experiences, and embodies the Commission’s commitment to supporting contemporary artistic practices and strengthening cultural dialogue locally and internationally."

Marriage in Contemporary Art at SAMoCA Jax

The A Night of a Lifetime exhibition looks at marriage as a shared human experience where emotions meet social rules and customs. Curators Philippe Castro and Alaa Tarabzouni organise the artworks to show weddings as moments of joy, humour and contemplation, while also addressing memory, identity and cultural change in different contemporary settings.

The exhibition opened on January 26 and runs at SAMoCA at Jax for visitors interested in contemporary art. The project is presented by the Museums Commission, which uses this event to underline its support for current artistic practices and to encourage cultural dialogue within Saudi Arabia and with international partners.

A Night of a Lifetime exhibition showcases diverse media and artists

Artists in A Night of a Lifetime exhibition present works in many media, including photography, sculpture, installation, video, mixed media, drawing and painting. Some pieces are newly created for this project, while others are loans from established names, together forming a visual study of celebration, identity and memory in linked cultural contexts worldwide.

Newly commissioned contributions come from Saudi artist Ayman Yossri Daydaban, French artist Majida Khattari, French artist Shourouk Rhaiem and Lebanese artist Milia Maroun, each responding to the theme of weddings through a personal artistic view.

Through this structured presentation, A Night of a Lifetime exhibition at SAMoCA at Jax connects local, regional and international voices around the subject of marriage, allowing visitors in Diriyah to see how artists from varied backgrounds address shared rituals while also reflecting on identity, memory and evolving cultural practices.
