Mansoor Bin Mohammed Acknowledges Contributions Of Sponsors At Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament
H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, expressed gratitude to all sponsors of the 12th Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament. The event, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was a success. Organised with the theme ‘Unlimited Abilities’, it ran from 1st to 20th March.
The tournament has played a significant role in promoting various sports within the community. It provides a platform for local athletes to compete alongside top professionals and amateurs from the UAE and worldwide. This exposure helps enhance their performance and skills across diverse sporting disciplines.
Sponsors and partners were crucial in achieving the tournament's goals, as envisioned by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan. Their contributions were praised for supporting the largest sports event of its kind, which aims to foster sporting and community objectives.
H.H. Sheikh Mansoor honoured several partners and sponsors by presenting them with special shields. Among those recognised were Damac Properties, Al Tayer Motors, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, and Dubai Duty Free.
Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi also acknowledged sponsors like Insurance Market.ae, Tadawi Healthcare Group, Dubai Police General Command, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Pocari Sweat, and Dubai Health for their support during the tournament.
Khalfan Belhoul, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, honoured additional supporters on the final day. These included the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai, DP World, and Dubai Sports Channel.
Record Participation
This year's edition saw over 8,000 male and female athletes participating across 11 sporting disciplines. The total prize money increased to AED4.5 million, with allocations encouraging various sports such as volleyball (AED1.5 million) and Padel events (AED764,000).
The tournament also featured competitions in cycling (AED500,000), tug-of-war (AED370,000), road races (AED350,000), Obstacle Challenge (AED350,000), wheelchair basketball (AED210,000), Jiu-Jitsu (AED150,000), fencing (AED60,000), badminton (AED60,000), and Laser Run (AED60,000).
Organisational Challenges
The annual event presents organisational challenges due to its scale. Events occur simultaneously at multiple venues like Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex and Meydan Racecourse. Coordination among partners is vital for smooth operations while ensuring safety for audiences.
The tournament emphasises developing local talent by providing exposure to enhance technical skills. It promotes a sporting culture in society while highlighting an active lifestyle's health benefits.
Growth Over Years
Since its inception in 2013 with just over 1,500 participants, the Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament has grown significantly each year. The second edition hosted more than 3,000 athletes; subsequent editions saw increasing numbers up to this year's record-breaking participation.
The tournament has attracted nearly 60,000 athletes over 12 years across 99 different events under various disciplines. Even during COVID-19 restrictions in its eighth edition drew 2,500 participants.
This year's edition broke previous records with more than 8,000 athletes competing across various sports disciplines.
