Mansoor Bin Mohammed Chairs UAE Olympic Committee Meeting To Discuss Future Sporting Success
H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Olympic Committee, highlighted the UAE's commitment to human development across various sectors. This vision aligns with the Olympic Movement's goals, emphasising diverse ideas and effective strategies for a brighter future. He stressed integrating Olympic principles into daily life, particularly in health, education, culture, arts, environment, and entertainment.
The UAE's Olympic achievements reflect foundational values that mirror Emirati society's progress and alignment with ideals like peace, friendship, excellence, and respect. H.H. Sheikh Mansoor noted that the growth of the Olympic Movement enhances athletes' success on the international stage. This unified effort aims to ensure the UAE flag is prominent at prestigious sporting events worldwide.
During a meeting at the UAE Olympic Committee headquarters in Dubai, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Mansoor, several key decisions were made. The Board resolved to rename the National Olympic Committee as the UAE Olympic Committee to align with international practices. The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi and other board members.
The Board also discussed organising a workshop on recent IOC Olympic Charter revisions effective from 30th January 2025. These changes are significant for athlete eligibility, qualification systems, hosting rights, and National Olympic Committees' roles in selecting host cities. Additionally, they reviewed plans for major upcoming sporting events this year.
The UAE's participation in major events like the World Games in Chengdu (7–17 August 2025) and the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain (22–30 October 2025) was reviewed. Preparations for participation in the OCA General Assembly and GCC NOC Presidents’ Meeting in Kuwait this May were also discussed.
A presentation on a new electronic platform for sports participation was reviewed during the session. Launched last month by H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, this initiative aims to drive digital transformation and innovation within the sports sector.
Strategic Plans and Awards
The Board approved an Olympic Planning Committee strategic plan focusing on strengthening sports governance and administration, advancing leadership, and empowering athletes. Recommendations from the Marketing and Financial Resources Committee were also endorsed.
A 'Best Member Federation Award' was approved to honour outstanding federations based on criteria such as achievements; programme delivery; community engagement; innovation; female participation; talent development; governance; financial sustainability; infrastructure quality; international standing; alignment with global standards; and environmental sustainability.
Celebrating Success at GCC Beach Games
H.H. Sheikh Mansoor congratulated the UAE delegation for their performance at the 3rd GCC Beach Games held from 5 to 11 April in Muscat 2025. The team achieved a record haul of 23 medals: eight golds, eight silvers, and seven bronzes — marking their best result ever at this event.
The consistent participation of UAE teams across all three editions of these games was noted: five medals were secured in Bahrain (2010), ten in Qatar (2015), culminating in a historic 23 medals in Oman.
At the end of this productive session, H.H. Sheikh Mansoor posed for a commemorative photograph with UAE athletes who excelled at Muscat 2025’s GCC Beach Games.
