Malawi's President Chakwera And UAE's Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Discuss Bilateral Cooperation And Sign MoUs

Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of Malawi, welcomed H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, during a visit to Lilongwe. Nancy Tembo, Malawi's Minister of Foreign Affairs, was also present. The meeting marked the start of Sheikh Abdullah's official visit to the Malawian capital.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah conveyed greetings from UAE leaders to President Chakwera. He expressed wishes for Malawi's development and prosperity on behalf of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. In return, President Chakwera sent his regards to the UAE leaders and wished for their country's continued progress.

The discussions between H.H. Sheikh Abdullah and President Chakwera focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors. They explored opportunities in economic, commercial, investment, and development fields. Both parties expressed interest in strengthening ties across these areas of mutual interest.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah emphasised the UAE's commitment to building strong partnerships with Malawi. He highlighted the importance of fostering sustainable growth through effective development collaborations that benefit both nations. The UAE aims to deepen its economic relationships with friendly African countries.

Following their meeting, five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between the UAE and Malawi. These agreements aim to enhance cooperation in different sectors. The first MoU involves diplomatic training between the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy and Malawi's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The second MoU focuses on investment collaboration between the two countries. It was signed by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan and Vitumbiko Mumba, Malawi's Minister of Trade and Industry. Another agreement targets investment cooperation in the minerals sector.

Digital Learning Initiative

The fourth MoU centres on digital learning initiatives. This agreement was signed between the Digital School, part of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, and the Government of Malawi. It aims to promote educational advancements through digital platforms.

The fifth MoU establishes a joint UAE-Malawian Business Council. This agreement involves the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Malawi’s Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Delegation Attendance

The meeting saw attendance from key officials including Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State; Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs; and Khalifa Abdulrahman Al Marzouqi, UAE's Non-Resident Ambassador to Malawi.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah expressed gratitude for the warm reception in Malawi. He appreciated President Chakwera's hospitality during his visit. The discussions underscored both nations' commitment to fostering stronger ties for mutual benefit.
