Maktoum Bin Mohammed Discusses Strategic Partnership With WEF President Børge Brende In Dubai
H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE, met with Børge Brende, President and CEO of the World Economic Forum (WEF). This meeting took place during the Annual Meetings of the Global Future Councils and Cybersecurity 2025 in Dubai from 14th to 16th October.
The event, organised by the UAE Government in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, aims to address key global challenges. The discussions focused on themes such as artificial intelligence, green economy, energy transition, and food and water security. These topics are crucial for shaping future priorities.
Sheikh Maktoum emphasised the UAE's dedication to fostering global dialogue and collaboration. He highlighted the importance of working with international organisations to develop practical solutions for global challenges. This approach aims to improve quality of life and promote sustainable development worldwide.
Børge Brende commended the UAE's leadership and its strong partnership with the World Economic Forum. He noted the nation's commitment to hosting the Global Future Councils annually with a renewed vision. This sets an example for building a sustainable future focused on human wellbeing.
During the meetings, Sheikh Maktoum was briefed on significant outcomes, including launching the Cybersecurity Forum. Held alongside the Annual Meetings, this forum aims to enhance global coordination in tackling digital challenges. It seeks to ensure secure and sustainable digital systems for all.
The 2025 edition brings together over 700 experts from 580 organisations across 93 countries. Participants include global business leaders, academics, and policymakers who explore key sectors' futures. Their insights will inform discussions at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos.
Focus on Sustainable Future
This year's event features 37 councils covering six main topics: Technology, Economy, Society, Environment, Governance, and Health. Experts focus on advancing efforts to design a sustainable future. They aim to enhance communities' quality of life and create opportunities for future generations.
The Global Future Councils play a vital role in promoting international cooperation. They provide a platform for knowledge exchange to shape a better future for societies worldwide.
For the first time, the Cybersecurity Council's Annual Meeting is held alongside these councils. Over 150 senior leaders and 90 global speakers participate to advance international cooperation in cybersecurity strategies.
The meeting was attended by several notable figures including Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs; Mohamed bin Hadi Al Hussaini, Minister of State for Financial Affairs; Ohood Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and Future; and Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Future Foundation.
