Maktoum Bin Mohammed Inaugurates Second Phase Of Moro Hub Green Data Centre To Enhance Sustainability
H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, recently opened the second phase of the Green Data Centre at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This centre is part of Data Hub Integrated Solutions (Moro Hub), a subsidiary of Digital DEWA, which is the digital division of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
The first phase was inaugurated in 2023 by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. The event was attended by several dignitaries including Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA. Other notable attendees included Lieutenant-General Awad Hader Al Muhairi and Major General Tamim Mohammed Al-Muhairi from Dubai's State Security Department.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer expressed gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Maktoum for inaugurating this phase, highlighting its alignment with H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision for a sustainable future through innovation. He stated that this achievement underscores UAE’s leadership in the green economy and supports Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.
The Green Data Centre is entirely powered by solar energy and aims to achieve a total capacity of 100 megawatts over ten phases. Covering an area of 100,000 square metres, it has received the "Tier-III" certification from the Uptime Institute. This facility serves as a platform for advanced technological solutions like cloud computing, IoT, cybersecurity, and more.
The inauguration saw participation from various strategic partners such as Microsoft, Cisco, Dell Technologies, SAP, and local entities like Dubai Digital Authority and ENOC. These partnerships aim to bolster digital transformation and sustainability efforts in the UAE by providing integrated infrastructure that enhances organisational sustainability.
Moro Hub’s data centre sets a global benchmark for energy efficiency using smart technologies that help businesses improve efficiency while reducing carbon emissions. It plays a crucial role in developing a sustainable ecosystem by leveraging solar energy technologies and AI systems.
