Makkah Route Initiative Simplifies Luggage Handling For Pilgrims

The Ministry of Interior’s Makkah Route Initiative, part of the Pilgrim Experience Program under Saudi Vision 2030, is dedicated to simplifying travel procedures for pilgrims journeying from Ankara Esenboga International Airport to the Kingdom. This initiative ensures that luggage is delivered directly to pilgrims' accommodations in Makkah and Madinah, eliminating the need for baggage collection upon arrival.

Luggage concerns are a constant issue for travellers, and Hajj is no exception. Recognising this, the Makkah Route Initiative employs advanced technology to streamline the luggage handling process. The journey begins at the airport's baggage drop-off point. This year, RFID technology was introduced, enabling quick electronic reading of pilgrim data.

A dedicated team sorts pilgrims by their final destinations in Makkah or Madinah and assigns each hotel a unique code and colour for faster identification. Fifteen minutes before the plane lands, designated luggage transport vehicles are pre-positioned within the airport to ensure a seamless transition.

To guarantee zero loss, a four-point inspection system is implemented. The first inspection occurs upon arrival, with the technology reading 400 bags in just 20 seconds. After clearing Saudi customs, the luggage undergoes a second check. It is then sorted by colour code onto designated carts for transport.

A third inspection takes place after loading, followed by a final check before reaching the hotels. In the rare event of lost luggage, the system allows for immediate identification and swift recovery. This meticulous process ensures that pilgrims can focus on their spiritual journey without worrying about their belongings.

The Makkah Route Initiative exemplifies Saudi Arabia's commitment to enhancing the pilgrim experience through innovative solutions. By leveraging technology and efficient processes, the initiative significantly reduces travel-related stress for pilgrims.
