Makkah Route Initiative Streamlines Luggage Handling For Malaysia's Hajj Pilgrims
The Makkah Route Initiative has been streamlining the journey of Hajj pilgrims by offering a luggage sorting and tagging service. This service ensures the smooth transfer of their belongings to their residences in Madinah and Makkah. The tagging process begins at the pilgrims' home country airports, eliminating the need for them to wait at baggage claim areas upon arrival in Saudi Arabia.
In Malaysia, the tagging process is managed by a specialized team under the supervision of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. The procedure starts at the designated lounge for the initiative at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Here, the pilgrims' luggage is sorted and labelled with flight details, personal information, and their places of residence.

A label is also affixed to the passport cover, and pilgrims receive a card containing the same information as on their luggage. This ensures that all necessary details are readily available for both the pilgrims and the authorities handling their belongings.
Upon arrival at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, pilgrims are transferred to dedicated buses. These buses transport them to their residences in Makkah and Madinah via designated routes. Meanwhile, partnering bodies deliver the luggage to the pilgrims' accommodations according to Saudi Arabia's transportation and housing arrangements.
Benefits of the Service
The tagging service ensures that each pilgrim's luggage reaches their residence without any hassle, saving them effort and time. This facilitates their travel procedures significantly, allowing them to focus on their pilgrimage without worrying about their belongings.
Part of Saudi Vision 2030
The Makkah Route Initiative is implemented by the Ministry of Interior in collaboration with various government partners. It is part of the Pilgrim Experience Program (PEP), one of the initiatives under Saudi Vision 2030. This program aims to enhance the overall experience of pilgrims visiting Saudi Arabia for Hajj.
