Conference In Makkah Seeks Unity Among Islamic Sects Under King Salman's Patronage

The global conference titled "Building Bridges between Islamic Schools of Thought and Sects" commenced yesterday, receiving the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. This significant event, orchestrated by the Muslim World League (MWL), is dedicated to enhancing understanding among various Islamic schools of thought and sects. It aims to tackle and mitigate the narratives, slogans, and behaviors within these groups that contribute to extremism.

During the opening address, Grand Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and President of the Council of Senior Scholars and General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, as well as MWL Supreme Council President Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh, highlighted the fundamental Islamic value of unity. He issued a caution against the perils of division and discord within Islam. Al Al-Sheikh extended his gratitude towards the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for his "generous patronage of the conference" and his significant efforts to foster unity among Muslims.

Makkah Conference Aims for Islamic Unity

MWL Secretary General and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa announced that the conference would result in a charter aimed at building bridges among Islamic sects. This document is expected to contain crucial guidelines to aid Islamic sects in collaborating to address challenges for the benefit of the nation. Al-Issa also acknowledged the substantial contributions made by the Kingdom’s government under King Salman's leadership and HRH the Crown Prince in serving Islam.

The conference is set to feature discussions by prominent Islamic figures, including muftis and senior scholars from various sects. These discussions will focus on fostering cooperation among the different Islamic sects.

This initiative underscores a significant move towards unity and cooperation within the Islamic community, reflecting a collective effort to counteract extremism by promoting understanding and dialogue among its diverse schools of thought and sects.
