LUNAR Festival Of Lights To Illuminate Sofia's Iconic Spaces From May 8-11, 2024

The LUNAR Festival of Lights is set to return to Sofia from May 8-11, transforming the city with vibrant light displays. This event will illuminate iconic buildings and urban spaces in the Bulgarian capital. The festival, known for its projection mapping shows and light installations, aims to convey messages about the planet's future, technological progress, and freedom of expression.

During this year's fourth edition, artists worldwide will showcase digital art across Sofia's streets. These displays will occur each evening from Thursday to Sunday, between 9 pm and midnight. The central part of Sofia will become an open-air gallery featuring artworks designed specifically for its renowned buildings, parks, and squares. All installations will be accessible free of charge.

In previous years, LUNAR has displayed over 90 light artworks by 57 artists from 18 countries. This year promises a similar international flair with compelling digital art presentations. The festival has consistently attracted large audiences, with last year's event drawing more than 600,000 visitors.

The main artistic force behind LUNAR is MP-STUDIO, a Bulgarian visual effects studio. They organize the event in collaboration with the globally recognized Festival of Lights International. This partnership ensures a high-quality experience for attendees.

The festival receives support from several prominent organizations. These include the European Parliament in Bulgaria and the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria. Additionally, Sofia Municipality supports it under Mayor Vasil Terziev's patronage.

The Ministry of Tourism also backs the event financially through the "Creation" program of the National Culture Fund. Such support highlights the festival's cultural significance and its role in promoting artistic expression.

LUNAR not only entertains but also educates by addressing important themes like environmental sustainability and technological innovation. Its ability to attract both locals and tourists underscores its impact on Sofia's cultural landscape.
