Louvre Abu Dhabi Unveils Post-Impressionism: Beyond Appearances Exhibition Featuring Iconic Artists
The Louvre Abu Dhabi has unveiled its latest exhibition, "Post-Impressionism: Beyond Appearances," which will be open to the public from 16th October 2024 until 9th February 2025. This exhibition is a collaboration between Louvre Abu Dhabi, Musée d’Orsay, and France Muséums, showcasing works by renowned artists like Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Cézanne.
Curated by Jean-Rémi Touzet and Jérôme Farigoule, with assistance from Aisha Alahmadi, Estelle Bégué, and Fanny Matz, the exhibition features around 100 pieces. These include paintings, works on paper, and textiles sourced from nine museums and cultural institutions. The event is sponsored by Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) and supported by L’Officiel Arabia as a media partner.

The exhibition highlights masterpieces such as Van Gogh's "Bedroom in Arles" (1889) and "The Siesta" (1889-1890), Cross's "The Hair" (circa 1892), Cézanne's "Portrait of Madam Cézanne" (1885-1890), Bernard's "Breton Women with Umbrellas" (1892), and Sérusier's "The Talisman" (1888). Additionally, prints from Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collection will be displayed alongside works by Egyptian artist Georges Hanna Sabbagh.
Dr. Guilhem André stated that the exhibition celebrates the unique perspectives of artists like Henri-Edmond Cross and Maurice Denis. He noted that it reflects the museum’s dedication to broadening the art history canon. The exhibition also includes pieces by Georges Hanna Sabbagh, highlighting Post-Impressionism's extensive influence.
The exhibition is divided into nine sections, each focusing on different Post-Impressionist artists' journeys. Visitors can explore paths dedicated to Neo-Impressionism, Cézanne, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Nabis, Toulouse-Lautrec, Odilon Redon, prints, and new artistic directions leading to the avant-garde movement of the 20th century.
Four interactive multimedia devices allow visitors to engage with video projections and stories about the artists. They can also experiment with creating their own artworks inspired by Post-Impressionist techniques.
