Logistics Firms Must Follow TGA Rules For Pilgrims’ Safety During Haj

The Transport General Authority (TGA) has mandated that road transport sector operators adhere to regulations and deliver optimal services to pilgrims during the Haj season of 1445. Operators must also comply with cargo sector requirements. The TGA emphasised that truck operator cards ensure all technical standards are met, and vehicle data on public roads will be recorded.

Safe cargo loading is crucial for the safety of both road users and transported goods. The TGA highlighted that companies and individuals can access the cargo-securing guide on its website to familiarise themselves with best practices. Cargo transport documents are essential as they verify the goods being transported and outline the conditions under which they are carried.

These documents also promote investment in the sector by defining the rights and responsibilities of parties involved in transport operations. Last year, over 10 million such documents were issued across Saudi Arabia. The TGA noted that adherence to regulations has significantly contributed to the growth of the logistics services sector.

In 2023, Saudi Arabia advanced 17 places in the Logistics Performance Index issued by the World Bank, thanks to improved operational efficiency and sector initiatives. The TGA's use of technologies has enhanced sector efficiency and services, helping achieve its objectives.

For instance, last year saw the introduction of hydrogen-powered and electric trucks in the Kingdom for the first time. Additionally, the TGA launched a regulatory sandbox, an innovation program that provides a flexible space for companies to pilot new transportation models in an organised manner.

The implementation of cargo transport documents has led to increased investment in the logistics sector. These documents set clear guidelines for the rights and responsibilities of all parties involved, thereby fostering a more structured and reliable transport system.

The TGA's initiatives have not only improved operational efficiency but also contributed to Saudi Arabia's significant rise in global logistics rankings. The authority continues to focus on leveraging technology to enhance service delivery and achieve its strategic goals.

Overall, these measures reflect a concerted effort by the TGA to ensure safety, efficiency, and growth within Saudi Arabia's road transport and logistics sectors.
