Lockheed Martin Welcomes Record 44 Interns To Advanced Technology Internship Programme In Abu Dhabi
Lockheed Martin has launched its latest summer internship programme at the Centre for Innovation and Security Solutions (CISS) in Abu Dhabi. This year, 44 aspiring engineers, scientists, and future leaders have joined the programme. The initiative aims to nurture talent in the UAE and foster innovation in defence, aerospace, and advanced technology sectors.
The 2025 cohort is diverse, comprising UAE nationals, U.S. citizens, and residents from 16 other countries. Six students have travelled from the United States, Singapore, India, and Italy. This highlights the UAE's growing reputation as a hub for innovation. Interns were chosen through a rigorous selection process based on academic performance, technical skills, and leadership potential.

This summer's interns will work alongside Lockheed Martin engineers on five cutting-edge projects. These projects focus on space systems, artificial intelligence (AI), and simulation technologies. Themes include constructing lunar bases with 3D-printed regolith and designing modular vertical takeoff aircraft. Other projects involve developing autonomous debris detection systems for aviation safety and immersive cockpit simulators.
Gen. John "Mick" Nicholson, U.S. Army (Ret.), CEO of Lockheed Martin Middle East stated: "Lockheed Martin is a global leader in advancing defence innovation, where high-tech meets high impact." He emphasised that the programme not only supports national security but also strengthens STEM skills and contributes to economic growth.
Hala Majeed, manager of Lockheed Martin CISS, described the programme as more than just training. "This is more than a training programme. It is a long-term investment in the UAE’s talent pipeline and sovereign capabilities," she said. Students are gaining practical experience by tackling real-world challenges and acquiring skills essential for leadership in critical sectors.
Since its inception in 2017, over 250 students have graduated from the CISS internship programme. Alumni have pursued careers in aerospace, engineering, and public service with organisations like EDGE Group and Tawazun. Some have joined startups or tech firms while others work with industry partners such as Mubadala or Dubai Police.
Supporting National Goals
The internship aligns with national objectives for STEM education and workforce development. It also enhances industrial self-reliance while strengthening U.S.-UAE collaboration on research and talent development initiatives. Lockheed Martin has hired 14 Emirati interns into key national security programmes as part of its commitment to local talent development.
The programme continues to play a vital role in shaping future leaders by providing hands-on experience in advanced technology fields. By investing in young talent today, Lockheed Martin aims to contribute significantly to the UAE's long-term capabilities across various sectors.
