GASTAT Reports Local Vegetable Production Covers 80.6% Of Total Needs In The Kingdom
The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) has released the Agriculture and Fisheries Accounts report for 2023. It highlights that local vegetable production in Saudi Arabia accounted for 80.6% of the total vegetable supply. Local fruit production contributed 63.7% to the overall fruit supply, while local cereals covered 14.8% of the total cereal consumption.
The report also reveals that the total value of local crop production reached SAR38.332 billion in 2023. In terms of fish supply, Saudi Arabia produced 377,000 tons, with local sources covering 56.9%. This includes both marine fishing and fish farming activities. Fish imports made up 43.1% of the total supply.

Local cattle production contributed significantly, making up 67.4% of the total supply. Camel production was even higher at 76%, with an average value of SAR6,000 per head. The average value for sheep and goat production stood at SAR1,250 per head.
The livestock sector saw growth, particularly in goats, which experienced a growth rate of 51.8% within the total livestock population increase. This data is part of a broader effort to provide comprehensive information on plant, animal, and fishery resources in Saudi Arabia.
The fishery sector's total production value reached SAR5.189 billion, averaging SAR24,000 per ton for fish and related products. Marine fishing accounted for 19% when compared to the reference period from 2000 to 2020.
This publication aims to organize data and analyze how environmental factors relate to economic activities in agriculture and fisheries within the Kingdom.
