Livestock And Fisheries Program Partners With PhageGuard To Localise Innovative Poultry Technology

The National Livestock and Fisheries Development Program has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PhageGuard, a global biotechnology solutions provider, and Tanmiah Food Company, a poultry producer based in Saudi Arabia. This agreement was signed in the presence of Eng. Mansour Al Mushaiti, the Vice Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture.

This collaboration is part of Saudi Arabia's strategy to enhance sustainable livestock production. The aim is to improve the quality and safety of local products by adopting innovative solutions that reduce health and environmental risks. This initiative also seeks to boost the competitiveness of national products both regionally and globally.

Localising PhageGuard Technology for Poultry Safety

PhageGuard will supply its advanced biotechnology solutions through its local agent, Portalis Capital. Tanmiah Food Company will implement and localize these technologies within the Saudi market. This effort aims to support the development of the poultry sector by increasing operational and production efficiency.

The partnership emphasizes bacteriophage technology as a promising biological alternative to traditional antibiotics. This approach is particularly relevant given the growing concerns over antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The phages specifically target Salmonella bacteria, helping reduce its spread and lowering dependence on antibiotics.

By applying this technology, the risk of foodborne illnesses caused by Salmonella in animal products like poultry and eggs can be mitigated. This will enhance the quality and safety of the final product, strengthening its competitiveness in both local and global markets.

The initiative aims to establish a knowledge- and innovation-driven livestock industry in Saudi Arabia. By focusing on safer food production methods, it aligns with broader efforts to transition towards more sustainable practices in agriculture.

This partnership represents a significant step towards improving food safety standards in Saudi Arabia's poultry sector. By reducing reliance on antibiotics, it supports healthier livestock production while addressing public health concerns related to antibiotic resistance.
