Literature, Publishing, And Translation Commission Highlights 'Tarjim' Initiative At International Conference In India

The Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission recently took part in an international conference hosted by JECRC University in Jaipur, India. The event focused on "Educational, Cultural, and Societal Approaches in Literature, Communication, and Translation." Dr. Hailah Al-Khalaf, General Manager of the Translation Sector at the Commission, presented a research paper titled "Global Society Using Translation: The 'Tarjim' Initiative's Contribution to Language Services Management."

Dr. Al-Khalaf highlighted the significant achievements of the "Tarjim" initiative since its launch in 2021. She noted that the initiative has surpassed previous efforts in translating to and from Arabic. According to various studies, these accomplishments have been achieved in a remarkably short time. She stated, "These figures reflect the Kingdom's commitment to promoting cultural and knowledge exchange with the world and confirm the pioneering role that the 'Tarjim' initiative plays in this field."

Commission Showcases 'Tarjim' Initiative at Conference

In her opening speech at the conference, Dr. Al-Khalaf emphasized the importance of international gatherings for sharing global experiences. She discussed how translation plays a vital role in fostering cultural exchange and improving communication between nations. This emphasis on translation is crucial for enhancing understanding across different cultures.

The "Tarjim" initiative is a key program by the Commission aimed at supporting high-quality translations from and into Arabic. It operates through two main grant tracks: book translation grants and grants for academic journals, cultural magazines, and articles. In just four years since its inception, it has facilitated over 858 book translations.

The initiative has also supported translating 249 Saudi books into other languages. This effort significantly boosts the global presence of Saudi literature. Additionally, "Tarjim" has enriched Arabic content by providing more than 80 grants for academic journals and over 930 grants for cultural articles.

Dr. Al-Khalaf stressed that these achievements elevate translated Arabic literature internationally. She remarked on their importance for promoting cultural exchange globally. The initiative's success reflects Saudi Arabia's dedication to enhancing knowledge sharing worldwide.

The conference underscored opportunities for development in translation, literature, and publishing sectors. Dr. Al-Khalaf highlighted potential growth areas during her address at the event. Such international conferences are vital for exchanging ideas and building upon existing achievements.
