Latifa Bint Mohammed Inaugurates House Of Arts To Promote Regional Art At Expo City Dubai
The official opening of the House of Arts at Expo City Dubai was attended by H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. This event marked a significant step in the cultural development of Expo City Dubai, establishing the House of Arts as a multidisciplinary space dedicated to promoting art from the UAE and the wider region.
During her visit, H.H. Sheikha Latifa explored the exhibition halls and galleries of the inaugural show titled ‘Entanglement.’ The exhibition featured creative works by 18 artists from the UAE, GCC, and Arab world. She praised their originality and depth, highlighting their ambition to enrich the local cultural landscape.
H.H. Sheikha Latifa emphasised the strategic partnership between Dubai Culture and Expo City Dubai. She noted that this collaboration serves as a model for cultural integration between institutions, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting cultural diversity and empowering the creative sector in Dubai.
The opening event took place in the award-winning structure formerly known as the Morocco Pavilion, now repurposed as House of Arts. This building was recently nominated for the prestigious Aga Khan award and spans seven floors dedicated to exhibitions, workshops, and programming spaces.
Visitors experienced traditional regional crafts like weaving reimagined by talented Gulf artists and designers. Heritage became a living expression throughout the evening, with each gesture telling a story and tradition evolving into a vision of shared futures.
The exhibition showcased artworks inspired by pearl diving and Sadu weaving through innovative metal and digital installations. These works offered visitors a contemplative journey through local and regional cultural narratives.
Innovative Interpretations of Traditional Crafts
The participating artists presented unique interpretations of Sadu weaving, a craft inscribed on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Their works highlighted intergenerational connections by blending ancestral craftsmanship with contemporary expression.
The opening event continued Expo City Dubai’s mission to bring cultures together while introducing visitors to rich regional heritage. Guests were introduced to traditional Sadu weaving roots through innovative interpretations by leading Gulf artists whose work reflected exceptional skill.
A New Chapter for Regional Artists
Amna Abulhoul, Executive Creative Director at Expo City Dubai, remarked on this new beginning: "Today, as the lights go out at Dhai Dubai's second edition, we spark a new light at House of Arts... It breathes new life into ancient traditions alongside contemporary art forms."
This event marks an ongoing collaboration between Dubai Culture and Expo City Dubai to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global hub for creativity. The partnership also included Dhai Dubai which concluded its showcase today featuring leading Emirati artists across three generations.
