Kuwait's Al-Zour Refinery Hits Full Operation With 615,000 Bpd Output

Kuwait’s Al-Zour refinery is among the region's most impactful oil projects and a cornerstone of state-run Kuwait Petroleum Corporation's (KPC) future plans. The fully operational facility now produces 615,000 barrels per day (bpd). Located 90 kilometers south of Kuwait City, the refinery has been a core concern for Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who attended a ceremony last month to mark its full capacity operation.

Ranked seventh globally based on daily capacity, Al-Zour is set to propel KPC to regional prominence. The refinery produces 86,000 bpd of premium Naphtha, 99,000 bpd of jet fuel, and 147,000 bpd of low-sulfur diesel. These outputs align with Kuwait's environmental sustainability goals by keeping carbon emissions in check.

Al-Zour Refinery Fully Operational

With its full-fledged operation, Al-Zour will enhance Kuwait's competitiveness in the global market through high-quality oil-based products. KPC chief executive Sheikh Nawaf Al-Sabah stated that the nation would now "reap the benefits" of the facility, including a significant rise in crude oil exports. He praised the dedication and commitment of KPC's national workforce, noting that their experience with this critical project would benefit their future professional endeavors.

Industry Implications

Wadha Al-Khatib, acting chief executive of KPC affiliate Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company, mentioned that the opening of Al-Zour refinery would "usher in a new era" in Kuwait's oil industry. The facility serves as a "launchpad" for greater output capacity while adhering to environmental safety standards.

Global Reach

The rise in Kuwaiti oil exports has benefited some 30 countries worldwide. Al-Zour has increased total refining capacity from 800,000 bpd to 1.415 million bpd. The national workforce's efforts were crucial in achieving the facility's full-fledged operations.

The successful operation of Al-Zour refinery marks a significant milestone for Kuwait's oil industry and its national economy. The facility’s contributions are expected to have lasting positive effects on both regional and global scales.
