Kuwait Launches Visas On Arrival For GCC Residents

In a significant move, GCC residents can now avail visa on arrival in Kuwait. This move is set to open Kuwait's doors wider to international visitors, offering them easier access to explore the attractions of this lesser-known destination. By simplifying the visa acquisition process, Kuwait aims to attract a broader spectrum of tourists, contributing to its gradual tourism development.

Eligibility for the on-arrival visa requires individuals to possess valid residency in one of the GCC states—namely the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, or Qatar—for a minimum period of six months. This initiative is marked by its inclusivity as it imposes no restrictions based on the applicant's profession.

To obtain a visa, travelers merely need to present a passport and proof of their qualifying GCC residency at Kuwaiti entry points such as airports, land borders, and seaports. This policy has been implemented with immediate effect, streamlining the entry process for eligible visitors.

Kuwait's efforts to modernise and facilitate the visa application process were further highlighted with the recent launch of an online tourist visa portal. This platform not only caters to expat residents of GCC countries but also extends its services to citizens of the EU, US, UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Applicants can now submit their documents digitally, receiving an electronic visa that simplifies what was previously a cumbersome procedure reliant on paper documentation.

Moreover, the online system is designed to accommodate various types of visa applications. These include a 30-day family visit visa, which can be issued through relatives with valid Kuwaiti residency, and a 30-day business visa that local companies or hotels acting as sponsors can arrange. Additionally, government visit visas are available through the platform, intended for diplomatic or official state visits, thus catering to a wide range of visiting purposes.

Before this, obtaining visas on arrival in Kuwait was predominantly reserved for nationals from select countries such as those in the EU, US, UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. The recent expansion of this facility to include GCC expat residents underscores Kuwait's commitment to opening its borders to a diverse international audience.
