Kuwait Announces Scheduled Blackouts For Electricity Network Stability
The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has revealed plans to implement scheduled power cut-offs lasting from one to two hours. This measure aims to maintain the stability of the electricity network.
Residents are urged to reduce electricity use during peak hours, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. This will help lessen the need for power cuts and ensure network stability. The ministry indicated that similar measures might be taken again if necessary.
The areas and blocks affected include Qibla (3, 4), Khaldiya (1-6), Manqaf (1-5), Raqqah (1-6), Rumaithiya (1-9), Salwa (1-12), Salmiya (1-9), Shuwaikh (2, 3, 4, 5, 7), Abdullah Al Mubarak (1-5), Jabriya (A, B, 1-7, 9), Yarmouk (1-4), Farwaniya (1-6), Khaitan (1-7), Al Andalous (1-3), Sabah Al Nasser (1-3).
Other affected areas include Dasman (1-5), Daiya (1-5), Rawda (1-5), Surra (1-6), Nuzha (1-3), Abdullah Al-Salem Suburb (1-4), Qurtuba (1-5), Rahan 6 (2, 3), Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh (1-4, 15-17, 21, 23), Omariya (1-5), Ardiya (1-5).
Record Power Consumption
The electricity load index hit a record high of 16,810 megawatts. This surpasses last year's peak of 16,735 megawatts recorded on August 2, 2023. The Ministry of Electricity and Water attributed the power outage to increased summer demand and higher-than-normal temperatures.
Regae (1, 2, 11-15), Adeliya (1, 2), Faiha (1-4, 6-9), Qadsiya (1-9), Mansourieh (1, 2), Shaima (1, 3, 5-9), Sabhan (1, 2) are also on the list. Mahboula (1, 2, 6, 7) and Fahaheel (various blocks) will experience cut-offs too.
Health Facilities Unaffected
The Ministry of Health confirmed that health facilities were not impacted by the power cuts. Abdullah Al-Sanad stated that hospitals and clinics had no outages. Backup generators were ready at medical facilities across all governorates.
Umm Al Hayman (various blocks) and Jaber Al Ali will face interruptions as well. Sabah Al Ahmad sectors B, C, and D are included. Old Jahra blocks and several in Jahra will be affected too.
Al-Sanad mentioned that the Engineering Affairs Sector is taking proactive steps by providing backup generators to health facilities. This ensures continuous power supply during emergencies.
South Jahra blocks and Youn areas will also experience cut-offs. Waha blocks are included in the list as well.
Riqqa blocks and Hadia areas will face scheduled outages. Abu Halifa blocks and Fintas areas are also affected.
Sabaha Al Salem blocks and Messila sectors M10-M12 will experience interruptions. Adan blocks are included as well.
Seville blocks and Rabiah areas will face cut-offs too. Rehab blocks are also on the list.
Shuhada' blocks and Iffada areas will experience scheduled outages. Hitthen blocks are included as well.
Hawally blocks and Maidan Hawally sectors will face interruptions too. Wafra & Abdali Farms are also affected.
The Ministry's efforts aim to manage the electricity load effectively while ensuring essential services remain operational. Residents are encouraged to cooperate by reducing their electricity usage during peak times.
