Kuwait Slashes Prices Of Essential Medications, Affecting Over 200 Drugs
Kuwait has reduced the prices of over 200 drugs in the private sector by up to 60 per cent. This decision, approved by Kuwaiti Minister of Health Ahmad Al Awadhi, affects 209 drugs and products.
The price cuts include essential medications such as those for diabetes, blood pressure, antibiotics, and cholesterol-lowering drugs. The Ministry of Health's medicine quotation committee recommended these reductions.
The primary goal is to balance affordable drug prices while supporting the national pharmaceutical industry. Some medicines have seen price reductions as high as 60 per cent.
This new pricing policy will take effect three months after its publication in Kuwait's Official Gazette. This period allows the private health sector ample time to adjust to the new prices.
"The move ensures equilibrium between making drugs at reasonable prices and buttressing the national medicine industry," stated the ministry.
