Kuwait Cabinet Declares Public Holiday For Prophet's Birthday
The Kuwaiti Cabinet has declared a public holiday for all ministries, government bodies, and public institutions on Thursday, September 4, 2025. This is in observance of the Prophet's Birthday (1447 AH).
The announcement was made during the Cabinet's weekly meeting chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah. Official duties will resume on Sunday, September 7. Entities with unique operational hours will coordinate their schedules with relevant authorities, according to Arab Times.
During the same meeting, the Cabinet approved a draft decree-law to amend Law 1/1993 concerning the protection of public funds. This revision aims to address loopholes found in the previous law through practical applications. The updated legislation seeks to enhance legal drafting and expand criminalisation and protection measures for public funds. The approval took place at Bayan Palace under the leadership of Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah.
Minister of Oil Tareq Al-Roumi informed the Cabinet about the Kuwait Oil Company's new innovation center that employs artificial intelligence. This initiative aligns with Kuwait Petroleum Corporation's strategy for digital transformation within the energy sector.
Additionally, Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Abdullatif Al-Meshari discussed the ambitious Al-Sabriya City project. Spanning 80 kilometers, this development includes 55,000 housing units and is one of northern Kuwait's largest projects. It aims to address housing needs while promoting regional development.
Dr. Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, also serving as Minister of Finance and Acting Minister of State for Economic and Investment Affairs, updated the Cabinet on progress at the Al-Zour North Power Plant Project. The Public Authority for Partnership Projects (PAPP) has signed agreements for its second and third phases with a consortium including ACWA Power company and Gulf Investment Corporation.
