Kuwait Municipality Enacts Permanent Rules For Spring Camping Season

In a significant move to enhance the camping experience in Kuwait, the Kuwait Municipality has introduced a new regulation for camping that seeks to provide a structured and permanent solution to the challenges of slums and overcrowding in camping sites. This initiative will replace the temporary controls and requirements previously set by the Municipality's Camps Committee each spring, signaling a strategic shift towards more sustainable and organized camping practices.

The new regulation will allow the private sector to play a pivotal role in the transformation of designated camping sites. Entrepreneurs will now have the opportunity to develop camps and rent them out, as well as establish cafes, restaurants, shops, and halls within specified areas. This move is aimed at maximizing the benefits of the spring camping season, with a clear set of activities permitted and fees defined per square meter, creating a legal framework designed to eliminate violations and ensure responsible management of camping sites.

To safeguard the natural environment, the regulation introduces fines for the unauthorized and indiscriminate use of camping sites, particularly in the north, south, and west regions of Kuwait. The Kuwait Municipality's Legal Department is currently reviewing the regulation to ensure its efficacy before it is presented to the Municipal Council for further discussion.

Committee Honored for Protecting Camping Sites

In a related development, the Kuwait Oil Company recently hosted a ceremony to honor the committee responsible for studying and updating the sites allocated for spring camping for the 2023/2024 season. Muhammad Al-Basri, the director of the public relations and media group at the company, lauded the committee for its crucial role in protecting these sites, especially those near the Kuwait Oil Company, from potential damage during the camping season.

Al-Basri acknowledged the comprehensive efforts of various government agencies, including the Kuwait Municipality, the Ministry of Interior, the Public Authority for the Environment, and the Authority for Public Affairs, Agriculture, and Fisheries. He particularly noted the inclusion of women in these efforts, emphasizing the collaborative success in preserving Kuwait’s natural resources for future generations.

Nawaf Al-Mutairi, representing the Cleaning and Road Works Department in the Jahra Governorate Municipality, echoed these sentiments. Speaking on behalf of Eng. Saud Al-Dabbous, Director of the Kuwait Municipality, Al-Mutairi highlighted the exceptional work of the spring camps committee and the support from government agencies. He praised the season's success, attributing it to the cooperation and dedication of all parties involved.

This new regulation, alongside the efforts of dedicated committees and government agencies, marks a step forward in the sustainable management of camping activities in Kuwait. It not only aims to enhance the camping experience but also to protect and preserve the country's natural landscapes for years to come.
