Kuwait Municipality Enhances Efforts To Combat Illegal Construction Activities

The Kuwait Municipality has heightened its focus on ensuring construction compliance through ongoing field inspection campaigns. These campaigns target both residential and commercial properties currently under construction, aiming to enforce adherence to established regulations, systems, and licenses.

In a concerted effort, the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Municipality launched a monitoring initiative within private housing areas. This move is of the broader "House of a Life Without Violations" campaign, designed to identify and rectify buildings that do not comply with the building regulations.

Eng. Muhammad Al-Marri, the building supervisor for the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Municipality, under the guidance of Eng. Saud Al-Dabbous, the Director General of the Kuwait Municipality, has spearheaded the campaign across Kuwait. The campaign's objectives are multifaceted, focusing on enhancing awareness among citizens, tracking violations, issuing warnings, and taking legal action against those who fail to comply.

Eng. Al-Marri underscored the collective responsibility shouldered by plot owners, engineering offices, and contractors during the construction process. He pointed out that the engineering offices and contractors are particularly accountable in instances of violations. Their paramount duty is to ensure that all construction activities align with the approved licenses and plans.

The initiative has uncovered a prevalent issue: the most frequent violations pertain to exceeding the sanctioned construction rate. Such infractions lead to a stoppage of construction activities and subsequent legal procedures.

Prior to initiating this campaign, considerable effort was invested in educating the public on the significance of adhering to building codes and approved licenses to prevent project delays.

Mater Al-Marabi, Acting Head of the Violations Department for the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate Municipality, disclosed to KUNA that over 130 properties have been flagged for violations since the beginning of the year. These properties have been notified, with reports filed for further action.

Focus has recently been placed on the Funaitees area, where inspections uncovered numerous violations, including the unauthorized addition of floors. Construction on these properties has been halted, with owners warned to rectify the violations.

Al-Marabi highlighted that the auditing and follow-up team for violations conducts regular field campaigns. These efforts are crucial for monitoring compliance, informing property owners about violations, and emphasizing the importance of following regulations. The campaign aims to ensure the safety and security of construction projects and uphold the integrity of licenses issued by the Kuwait Municipality. It also seeks to prevent encroachment on state property or adjacent areas, maintaining respect for designated building spaces.

Through these vigilant inspection campaigns, the Kuwait Municipality reaffirms its commitment to upholding construction standards and regulations. The "House of a Life Without Violations" campaign serves as a critical tool in educating and aligning the actions of citizens, engineering offices, and contractors with legal and regulatory requirements, ultimately fostering a safer and more compliant construction environment in Kuwait.
