Eid Al-Fitr 2024: Kuwait Likely To Enjoy 6-Day Weekend

Ramadan is just around the corner and preparations are in full swing across Gulf countries. The Holy Month of Ramadan brings with it changes in work and school timings and Kuwait has announced a reduction in working hours for some employees.

As per astronomical predictions, Ramadan is likely to begin on 10 March. If the Holy Month of Ramadan lasts the full 30 days, this year's Eid Al-Fitr holiday will last for six days. If April 9 is the last day of Ramadan, Eid Al-Fitr will run from April 10–12. In addition, Sunday, April 14, will be designated as a rest day in place of Friday, April 12, subject to approval from the Cabinet.

However, if the Holy Month does not complete 30 days, the Eid holiday will be only for three only — from April 9-11 (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).

Working Hours During Ramadan

Kuwait has granted four-hour work days for women during Ramadan. Women can arrive 15 minutes late and depart 15 minutes early during the two 15-minute grace periods that they will be given.

For men, the working hours will be four hours and fifteen minutes, with a fifteen-minute break in the morning. Additionally, all employees are granted a 15-minute morning grace period, enabling those who arrive on time to leave 15 minutes early. During Ramadan, employees are allowed a maximum of two hours and a minimum of one hour of partial absence.

Government agencies are free to select appropriate work hours and shifts, taking into account the Civil Service Commission's (CSC) approved work schedule.
