Kuwait Tightens Enforcement Of Residency Laws With Harsh Penalties

In a recent announcement by the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier Yousef Al-Ayoub, the Director of the Residency Affairs General Department, has declared a significant escalation in efforts to clamp down on Residency Law violations in Kuwait. This comes after a grace period given to violators to amend their residency status or leave the country expired, as per the stipulations in the relevant ministerial decision.

The Ministry is set to launch intensive campaigns aimed at identifying and apprehending individuals who have failed to comply with the Residency Law. Brig. Al-Ayoub emphasized the ministry's commitment to reducing the number of violators and underscored the legal ramifications for those who provide shelter or employment to such individuals. Under Article 12 of the Foreigners Law, penalties include up to six months in jail or a fine not exceeding KD600.

Additionally, Brig. Al-Ayoub highlighted the ministry's ongoing efforts to combat the problem of fake companies that exploit workers from abroad. These entities, promising employment in Kuwait, fail to provide jobs upon the workers' arrival. Such companies are facing stringent actions, including being blocked and referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal proceedings.

The Ministry of Interior has also introduced new online services for both citizens and expatriates, aiming to streamline processes and improve efficiency. In a move to tackle the demographic imbalance issue, a higher committee has been actively engaging in discussions and studying various solutions. Among the considered measures is the implementation of a quota system for expatriate workers, distributed across different communities.

This sweeping initiative underscores Kuwait's determined stance on enforcing its Residency Laws, ensuring legal compliance, and maintaining a balanced demographic structure. As the ministry tightens its grip on residency violators and fraudulent employment practices, these efforts reflect a broader strategy to safeguard public interest and uphold the rule of law.
