Kuwait To Host The 45th General Assembly Of The Olympic Council Of Asia With Global Participation

Kuwait is set to host the 45th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) this Sunday. The event will see participation from the UAE delegation and officials from National Olympic Committees representing 45 Asian countries under the theme "One Asia." This assembly aims to foster unity and collaboration among Asian nations through sports.

Hussein Al-Musallam, Director-General of the OCA, mentioned that approximately 400 sports figures from Asia and worldwide are expected to attend. The gathering will commence with a cultural celebration at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre. This event will showcase folkloric performances from China, India, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Lebanon, and Kuwait, symbolising athletic unity across Asia.

Kuwait Hosts Olympic Council Assembly This Sunday

The assembly will continue on Monday with a meeting of the General Assembly of the Council. Heads of National Olympic Committees from member states will discuss developing the Olympic movement in Asia. The focus will be on enhancing sports and promoting values like friendship and respect. Al-Musallam hopes this gathering will lead to decisions that uplift Asian Olympic sports.

Al-Musallam highlighted that Dr. Thomas Bach, current President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and Kirsty Coventry, newly elected President and former Olympic champion from Zimbabwe, will be notable guests. Numerous presidents of Asian sports federations and key international sports figures are also expected to attend.

The meeting is a major international sports event hosted by Kuwait, home to the OCA headquarters. It aims to strengthen cooperation between National Olympic Committees and the Council while supporting efforts to develop sports across Asia. Al-Musallam emphasised ongoing collaboration between these committees and the Council to ensure successful sports events.

Asia has become a significant force in the international Olympic movement, having hosted seven Summer and Winter Olympic Games in its cities. Asian athletes are strong contenders for top positions in these games. Efforts will continue to advance the Asian Olympic sports movement further.

This assembly represents an important opportunity for fostering cooperation among Asian nations through sport. By bringing together leaders from across the continent, it seeks to enhance mutual understanding and promote shared values within the sporting community.
