Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah has significantly upgraded its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) throughout 2023 and 2024. These improvements align with Emirates Health Services' (EHS) goal of enhancing healthcare quality to meet global standards. The revamped ICU now adheres to the latest international standards, featuring advanced medical equipment and technology to handle emergency cases effectively.
Afra Salim, Director of Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah, highlighted that these upgrades represent a major enhancement to the hospital's medical services. She stated, "They exemplify Emirates Health Services' commitment to continuously enhance its facilities, ensuring top-notch healthcare for patients, and improving the efficiency and quality of medical care." Salim praised the dedicated efforts that have positioned the ICU as a leader in managing complex cases efficiently.

The hospital's medical team has excelled in saving lives of patients with severe illnesses requiring intensive care and prolonged ventilator use. Their expertise in implementing advanced treatment approaches has minimised complications and setbacks. Dr. Reda Sherif, Head of the ICU at Kuwait Hospital, explained that the unit performs over 25 precise throat incision procedures monthly. The recent enhancements have reduced patient wait times, lowered blood transfusion needs, and shortened ICU stays. He also mentioned the introduction of a crucial new service for plasma exchange patients.
The ICU now offers immediate response to critical cases under continuous supervision by a critical care physician and medical team around the clock, seven days a week. This ensures timely intervention for patients in need of urgent care.
