Kuwait Enforces Ban On Tattoo Devices And Razor Reuse For Minors

In a concerted effort to bolster public health and mitigate infection risks, Kuwait has unveiled a health and safety guide targeted at salons, fitness centres, and personal care facilities.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, the Health Minister, heralded the initiative, revealing the guide encompasses over 130 specific directives aimed at curbing infections and bolstering safety measures. This move, a collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, signifies a pivotal stride towards enhancing health standards in these sectors.

The guide introduces stringent regulations, including the prohibition of sharing razor blades or sharp instruments between clients to curb the risk of cross-contamination. It also outlines restrictions on services such as hair dyeing for children and tanning for those under 18, alongside banning the use of permanent tattoo equipment in salons.

To further ensure a hygienic working environment, employees are required to forego accessories during work and are barred from working if they exhibit symptoms of skin or infectious diseases.

In an effort to guarantee the readiness of staff to handle emergencies, the guidelines stipulate that all workers undergo CPR and lifesaving training. Facilities must have a certified lifeguard on duty at all times, and employees are to secure health fitness certificates before commencing their roles. These measures are designed to create a safer environment for both clients and staff, emphasising the commitment to health and safety.

A joint committee, formed in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, will oversee the adherence to these comprehensive guidelines. This committee is tasked with ensuring that facilities comply with the new health and safety standards, underscoring the government's determination to uphold high-quality services while protecting public health.

The initiative mandates strict safety protocols for communal amenities such as swimming pools, saunas, hot tubs, and steam rooms, including specific chlorine level requirements to ensure user safety.

Additionally, the guide specifies that only licensed cosmetic products from credible sources are to be used, coupled with stringent cleanliness and sterilisation protocols for all tools and equipment. These measures aim to uphold exceptional hygiene standards within these facilities.
