Kuwait Simplifies Hiring Of Overseas Workers With Updated Work Permit Policy

The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) in Kuwait has recently announced a significant shift in its policy regarding the issuance of work permits. In a move aimed at streamlining the process for employers, PAM has now made it possible for companies to secure work permits for 100 percent of their estimated labor requirements. This development is expected to have a positive impact on the recruitment dynamics within the country, facilitating easier access to foreign workers as per company needs.

Under the new regulation, the fee for obtaining a work permit has been set at KD 150. This adjustment comes as part of PAM's efforts to simplify administrative procedures and encourage economic growth by ensuring that businesses have the manpower needed to operate efficiently. The latest decision effectively abolishes the previous categorization of companies into three distinct groups based on their eligibility to secure work permits for their labor force.

Prior to this update, companies were segmented according to a system that limited the percentage of work permits they could obtain relative to their labor needs. Specifically, companies were classified into a first group that was allowed to request work permits up to 100 percent of their labor demand, a second group limited to 50 percent, and a third group confined to acquiring work permits for merely 25 percent of their needs.

By eliminating these restrictions, PAM has opened up new avenues for businesses across the board to enhance their operational capabilities. This decision is anticipated to not only support the growth of existing companies but also attract new investments by offering a more flexible and less restrictive environment for workforce acquisition. Employers can now more easily plan and execute their recruitment strategies, bringing in workers from abroad to meet their exact requirements without having to navigate the previously cumbersome limitations.

This policy update reflects PAM's commitment to adapting its regulations in response to the evolving needs of the Kuwaiti labor market. By providing a more straightforward and accessible pathway for companies to secure the necessary work permits, PAM aims to contribute to the overall development and competitiveness of the Kuwaiti economy.
