KSrelief And UK Foreign Office Collaborate To Enhance Cholera Response Efforts In Yemen

During a visit to the United Kingdom, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court and Supervisor-General of KSrelief, signed a joint statement with Jenny Chapman, Minister of State for International Development at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. The agreement, dated 28 April 2025, focuses on expanding cholera response efforts in Yemen to aid 3.5 million people.

The initiative involves KSrelief contributing $5 million to the UN World Health Organization (WHO). Simultaneously, the UK will provide $5 million to the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF). This financial backing aims to bolster emergency cholera response measures in Yemen through WHO and UNICEF's coordinated efforts.

KSrelief and UK Expand Cholera Response in Yemen

KSrelief's funding will support WHO in delivering crucial interventions for managing cholera outbreaks. These include leadership and coordination, surveillance and laboratory work, rapid response teams, case management, infection prevention and control, risk communication, community engagement, social mobilization, oral cholera vaccines, and water sanitation and hygiene initiatives.

UNICEF and WHO will implement various strategies to curb cholera and acute watery diarrhea in Yemen's hardest-hit regions. The UK's financial contribution will focus on enhancing water sanitation and hygiene alongside health activities in areas most at risk or already heavily contaminated.

This collaborative effort is part of Saudi Arabia's broader humanitarian mission through KSrelief. It aims to assist vulnerable populations in Yemen by improving health services and providing essential relief support.

The joint statement formalizes the commitment of both nations to address the choleral crisis effectively. By pooling resources and expertise, they aim to mitigate the disease's impact on affected communities across Yemen.
