KSrelief Participates In Senior Humanitarian Meeting Addressing Ukraine's Urgent Needs
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) took part in the fifth Humanitarian Senior Officials Meeting on Ukraine. This event occurred on January 28 at the European Commission's headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. Dr. Hana Omar, KSrelief's Director of Partnerships and International Relations, represented the organisation at this gathering.
Dr. Omar contributed to a session titled "Sustainability of Humanitarian Funding in 2025." She highlighted Saudi Arabia's efforts, through KSrelief, to aid Ukrainian refugees in Poland. This assistance was facilitated by two agreements with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), valued at $10 million.

Saudi Arabia has shown strong support under its leadership's directives, providing $400 million in aid. This includes an air bridge with 21 planes delivering medical supplies, power generators, and shelter equipment. The Kingdom has also supplied 125 ambulances to bolster Ukraine’s healthcare sector.
Dr. Omar stressed the importance of improving international aid coordination for effective humanitarian responses. She also called for increased donor contributions to ensure sustainability. The meeting addressed Ukraine’s urgent humanitarian needs and challenges in delivering aid amid rising demands.
The meeting was chaired by Andreas Papaconstantinou from the European Commission. Other notable attendees included Hadja Lahbib, European Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality; Iryna Vereshchuk from Ukraine's Presidential Office; Iryna Postolovska, Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Social Policy for European Integration; and Maryna Slobodnichenko, Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Health for European Integration.
Discussions focused on localising humanitarian responses and overcoming challenges in aid delivery. Saudi Arabia’s involvement underscores its dedication to leading humanitarian initiatives and enhancing global cooperation aligned with humanitarian principles and sustainable development goals.
Saudi Arabia's active participation reaffirms its commitment to international cooperation in humanitarian efforts. By supporting vulnerable populations through agreements with UN organisations, it aims to provide protection and healthcare services effectively.
