KSrelief Supervisor-General Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah Advocates For Humanitarian System Reform At UN General Assembly
Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, the Supervisor-General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), recently took part in a panel discussion on reform for impact. This event was held alongside the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During this session, he expressed concerns about the closure of numerous humanitarian projects, which has left millions without support.
Al Rabeeah highlighted that these closures have also led to many humanitarian workers leaving their roles due to increasing challenges and system fragility. He stated: "Alongside these challenges, unique opportunities emerge to reimagine and reshape our vision in favor of humanity. Through the UN80 initiative, we hope to reform the humanitarian system in a way that helps restore trust, motivation, and dignity, both for those most in need of support and for those who tirelessly dedicate their efforts to serving them."

The supervisor-general stressed that reforms should go beyond executive levels to include accountability, transparency, and inclusiveness. He mentioned that Saudi Arabia, through KSrelief, views the UN's 80th anniversary as a chance to renew collective commitment and push for sustainable reform. He also underlined the need for collaboration to ensure system efficiency.
Al Rabeeah emphasized aligning humanitarian efforts with development priorities while leveraging institutional expertise. Ensuring fair geographic representation at all levels is also crucial. The work of KSrelief spans 108 countries with over 3,600 projects executed in partnership with more than 328 collaborators.
In his concluding remarks, Al Rabeeah said: "We believe coordination is a collective responsibility and that joint action contributes to reducing duplication and improving the impact of humanitarian assistance." He urged learning from past experiences to create a better future for everyone.
He reiterated that Saudi Arabia will continue its leading role through KSrelief in establishing a global humanitarian aid system. This system aims to provide equal opportunities for all individuals to live peacefully with security and dignity.
