KSrelief's Global Initiatives Addressing Food Insecurity And Supporting Vulnerable Communities
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) in Saudi Arabia is a key player in global humanitarian efforts. It focuses on tackling food insecurity and enhancing living conditions for vulnerable communities worldwide. On World Food Day, observed on October 16, KSrelief emphasises the importance of food, water, and environmental sanitation in improving lives.
Since its inception in 2015, KSrelief has executed over 3,000 projects across 102 countries. These initiatives span various sectors such as food security, health, education, and shelter. The centre has invested significantly in food and agricultural security with 902 projects worth over $2.11 billion.

KSrelief collaborates extensively with the World Food Program (WFP) to provide aid to vulnerable populations globally. In the Gaza Strip, it has delivered food assistance using land, air, sea routes, and airdrops with the Jordanian Armed Forces' help. This partnership highlights KSrelief's commitment to addressing urgent humanitarian needs.
In Somalia, KSrelief is actively working to combat severe malnutrition in drought-stricken areas. This initiative benefits 180,148 individuals by providing essential nutritional support. Meanwhile, in Sudan's Kassala and Al-Qadarif states, KSrelief supports water and sanitation projects impacting over 833,520 people directly.
In 2023, KSrelief launched a dates aid program across 72 countries. This program distributed over 19,000 tons of dates at a cost of SAR136 million. Of this total, 4,000 tons were distributed through WFP to ensure widespread reach and impact.
The centre also initiated the Ramadan Iftar distribution project in Yemen in 2024. This project provided essential food supplies to more than 30,000 families during Ramadan across nine Yemeni governorates. It underscores KSrelief's dedication to meeting basic food needs during critical times.
Focus on Nutrition and Sanitation
Apart from food security projects, KSrelief has invested $187.68 million in nutrition through 28 projects. Additionally, it has implemented 99 water and environmental sanitation projects valued at $294.32 million. These efforts aim to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations worldwide.
During the UN General Assembly's 79th session in New York, KSrelief announced agreements addressing critical needs in Somalia and Sudan. These initiatives reflect its ongoing commitment to supporting communities facing severe challenges due to natural disasters or conflicts.
KSrelief continues its mission of alleviating suffering by implementing impactful projects globally. Its comprehensive approach addresses immediate needs while fostering long-term resilience among affected communities.
