KSrelief Chief Urges Global Action On Displacement Crisis And Highlights Saudi Arabia’s $1.2 Billion Refugee Aid

Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, the Supervisor-General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), has urged immediate measures to tackle the global displacement crisis. During a dialogue session at the 80th United Nations General Assembly, he highlighted the importance of ensuring peace and dignity for all individuals.

Al Rabeeah pointed out that in 2024, over 123 million people worldwide were forcibly displaced, equating to one in every 67 individuals. He identified Sudan as experiencing the largest crisis with more than 14 million displaced people. Other significant crises include Yemen, Ukraine, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Afghanistan.

Saudi Arabia’s $1.2 Billion Refugee Aid Highlighted

The primary cause of displacement is conflict, according to Al Rabeeah. He stressed that humanitarian aid alone cannot solve this issue unless conflicts are resolved and prevented. The Kingdom has actively engaged in diplomatic efforts and provided substantial humanitarian support to address these challenges.

Saudi Arabia's initiatives include addressing displacement causes through dialogue and mediation. The Kingdom has also called for lifting sanctions on Syria and condemned attempts to displace Palestinians while supporting a two-state solution. Al Rabeeah emphasized that these actions are crucial for resolving ongoing conflicts.

Saudi Arabia has shown significant support for refugees, contributing over $1.2 billion through 457 relief projects. KSrelief alone has implemented 362 projects worth $502 million aimed at assisting displaced persons, refugees, and host communities.

Al Rabeeah highlighted that the United Nations has confirmed acts of famine and genocide against Palestinians. He described these practices as unacceptable and called for urgent action to address them.

International Cooperation and Resource Management

Al Rabeeah urged member states to intensify their efforts in resolving conflicts while adhering to international humanitarian law. He also stressed the need for increased support, efficient resource use, and strong local leadership in humanitarian responses.

The Kingdom's commitment includes decisive diplomatic actions alongside its humanitarian contributions. These efforts aim to tackle root causes of displacement effectively through comprehensive strategies involving international cooperation.

The call for action by Dr. Al Rabeeah underscores Saudi Arabia's dedication to addressing global displacement issues through both diplomatic channels and substantial humanitarian aid.
