KSGAAL Collaborates With Ministry Of Media To Launch Comprehensive Glossary Of Media Terms
The King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language (KSGAAL), in partnership with the Ministry of Media, has introduced a glossary to standardise media terms. This resource is designed to aid researchers in their studies of both traditional and digital media. It serves as a reference for journalists, academics, media professionals, students, translators, and social media users, aligning with Saudi Arabia's broader media transformation strategy.
Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Washmi, KSGAAL's secretary-general, highlighted the academy's focus on creating digital dictionaries. These resources aim to support scientific research and enhance local production at individual and institutional levels. The goal is to build a unified database that offers researchers accurate knowledge sources. Additionally, it provides digital linguistic data for developers and programmers working on technical applications.

The glossary includes around 800 entries covering various media-related terms. Each entry provides the Arabic term, its grammatical category, type of entry, meanings, and English translations. This comprehensive collection addresses traditional media, print journalism, radio and television, digital media, social media, live broadcasting, podcasts, online journalism, digital marketing, contemporary platforms, audiovisual vocabulary, technical terms in the media field, and new concepts.
Dr. Al-Washmi noted that this glossary launch coincides with significant changes in the media sector. It offers linguistic references to help understand these transformations and develop related concepts. Previously, KSGAAL collaborated with government ministries to release specialized dictionaries. These efforts aim to provide linguistic support during these transformative times.
KSGAAL also launched the Siwar platform dedicated to publishing dictionaries. This platform allows users to perform advanced searches within dictionaries. The academy's accumulated expertise in dictionary creation contributes to preserving the Arabic language and its identity while facilitating teaching and learning both within Saudi Arabia and beyond.
The academy's initiatives are part of a broader effort to support the Arabic language through dictionary creation and authorship. By doing so, they aim to preserve its linguistic identity while making it easier to teach and learn globally.
