Officials from South Korea's agricultural sector are keen to partner with Middle Eastern nations, focusing on smart agriculture and exporting their produce, beginning with the UAE. During a meeting organised by Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, they highlighted the UAE's potential in boosting Korean agricultural exports to the region.

Seung-ho Choi, spokesperson for Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, expressed optimism about working with the UAE in smart agriculture. This collaboration could enhance crop production amid global climate challenges, especially in desert regions. He noted that such cooperation would leverage extensive data from smart agriculture technology.

Korea and UAE Collaborate on Smart Agriculture

Kim Shinjae, Director of Korea National Food Cluster Division, emphasised the significance of close ties with the UAE for exporting Korean agricultural products. He pointed out the strong demand for these products in the UAE, which has led to increased exports of fresh vegetables, fruits, and other food items.

Tae Hoon Kwon, CEO of Sangha-myeon Farm, mentioned that collaboration with the UAE has facilitated recent growth in Korean farm exports to international markets. This partnership offers excellent opportunities to access markets throughout the Middle East.

The rising demand for Korean agricultural products in the UAE and other regional markets motivates local farms to increase production. The Republic of Korea is a significant trading partner for the UAE both regionally and globally. Their cooperation extends across various sectors including agriculture, energy, climate change, environment, infrastructure, trade, technology, and industry.

The officials aim to develop sustainable environmental efficiency through smart agriculture initiatives. They believe this approach will not only boost productivity but also address environmental concerns effectively.

The collaboration between South Korea and the UAE is expected to bring mutual benefits by combining technological advancements with market needs. This partnership highlights a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability in agriculture.
