Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Advocates For Multilateral Action At UN Summit Of The Future

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, represented the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the Summit of the Future. This event took place during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. Speaking on behalf of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prince Faisal highlighted Saudi Arabia's commitment to participating in global negotiations.

His Highness expressed optimism about the "Pact for the Future," viewing it as a chance to improve global realities. He stressed that enhancing multilateral action is crucial for addressing current and future challenges. This approach aims to bolster peace, security, and sustainable development for future generations.

Saudi Arabia's Vision at UN Summit

The Kingdom hopes that the Pact will lead to significant changes in international cooperation. His Highness noted its potential to create a fair and responsive global system. This system should accelerate sustainable development goals and address needs, especially in developing countries. Bridging the digital divide and supporting emerging economies are also priorities.

Prince Faisal underscored Saudi Arabia's support for the United Nations' role in setting international norms and promoting collective action. He stated: "To achieve our ambition for a better future, reforming the United Nations system has become an urgent need to enable it to carry out its roles in addressing threats to international peace and security and hindering development paths."

The Foreign Minister highlighted the necessity of reforming international institutions. Their failure to resolve humanitarian crises, like in Palestine, shows this need. The inability to hold Israeli authorities accountable exemplifies these shortcomings. Ongoing failures in achieving global peace, particularly in the Middle East, challenge the "Pact for the Future."

Security and stability are essential foundations for any cooperation aimed at development. His Highness emphasized this point while discussing climate change challenges. He reiterated Saudi Arabia's commitment to addressing these issues while considering national differences.

Energy Transition Principles

Prince Faisal outlined three guiding principles for energy transitions: energy security, economic prosperity, and climate change mitigation. These principles align with both the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement. The Kingdom remains committed to these frameworks.

The Kingdom looks forward to hosting an important environmental conference later this year. This event coincides with the 30th anniversary of a key convention on combating desertification.

Vision 2030 Alignment

The speech concluded by reaffirming Saudi Arabia's dedication to achieving goals set out in the Pact. This aligns with Vision 2030 and aims at enhancing international cooperation and collective action.

The delegation from Saudi Arabia included notable figures such as Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud, Ambassador to the USA; Eng. Abdullah Alswaha, Minister of Communications; Mr. Faisal bin Fadhil Alibrahim, Minister of Economy; Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi from Public Diplomacy; Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasil; and Abdulrahman Aldawood from Prince Faisal’s office.
