Saudi Arabia Strengthens Global Aviation Ties By Signing Air Transport Agreements With 17 Countries At ICAO
Saudi Arabia has formalised a series of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with 17 nations. This occurred during the 42nd General Assembly of the UN International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada, from September 23 to October 3. These initiatives highlight Saudi Arabia's dedication to enhancing its global aviation presence and air transport capabilities.
The agreements focus on boosting bilateral cooperation in air transport. They aim to develop regulatory frameworks for civil aviation, improve international air connectivity, and enhance safety and security standards. These efforts also support economic growth and tourism development within the Kingdom.

Among the agreements were bilateral air transport service deals signed by Saleh Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Board Chairman of General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA). These were with Antigua and Barbuda as well as South Africa. The goal is to advance the air transport system, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030.
The agreements are designed to expand the operational network of national carriers. They aim to increase international air connectivity to 250 destinations by 2030. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub.
These initiatives also target transporting 330 million passengers annually by 2030. This aligns with the objectives set out in Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to transform various sectors within the Kingdom.
Enhancing Safety and Security
A key aspect of these agreements is enhancing civil aviation safety and security standards. By establishing robust regulatory frameworks, Saudi Arabia aims to ensure safer skies for passengers while fostering international collaboration in aviation.
The signing of these agreements marks a significant step towards achieving the goals of Saudi Arabia's aviation program. It underscores the Kingdom's commitment to becoming a leading player in global aviation and logistics.
