Yemen's Al-Mahrah Benefits From King Salman Medical And Educational City Project
Al-Mahrah Governor Mohammad Ali Yasser, his deputy Brigadier Mukhtar bin Awadh Al-Jaafari, and Al-Mahrah Governorate Undersecretary for Technical Affairs Engineer Awad Qowizan recently visited the King Salman Medical and Educational City Project. This project covers an area of 1 million square meters and is one of the largest initiatives by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) aimed at enhancing Yemen's health and education sectors.
The delegation was joined by Eng. Abdullah Basuleiman, director of SDRPY's Office in Al-Mahrah Governorate. He provided an update on the project's progress and achievements, highlighting its significance for Al-Mahrah Governorate and surrounding areas. The project is expected to be a major contributor to vital sectors in Yemen, improving both medical services and educational outcomes upon completion.

The King Salman Medical and Educational City Project includes constructing a fully-equipped 110-bed hospital with state-of-the-art medical equipment. The hospital will feature outpatient clinics, a comprehensive radiology department, a laboratory for various medical tests, an endoscopy department, as well as emergency and intensive-care units for adults, children, women, and childbirth.
The hospital will be equipped to perform major surgeries with dedicated rooms supported by extensive medical equipment. Additionally, there will be a section specifically for cardiac care and cardiac catheterization. The hospital has reached an advanced stage after completing civil and architectural works, ensuring it meets the needs of Al-Mahrah Governorate and neighboring regions with its advanced medical capabilities.
SDRPY has undertaken numerous projects to support Yemen's health sector. These include building and equipping hospitals and medical centers, rehabilitating them, operating them, and enhancing the capacities of medical staff. This assistance is part of SDRPY's broader development support across eight essential sectors: education, energy, transportation, water, agriculture and fisheries, development programs, government capacity building, along with health sector support.
The King Salman Medical and Educational City Project aims to significantly enhance healthcare quality in Yemen. It will provide advanced facilities such as outpatient clinics, radiology departments, laboratories for all types of medical tests, endoscopy departments, emergency units, intensive-care units for adults and children, as well as women’s childbirth units.
Upon completion of this project by SDRPY in Al-Mahrah Governorate, it will serve not only the local population but also neighboring governorates. The advanced medical equipment provided will ensure high-quality healthcare services are available to a larger population.
This initiative by SDRPY reflects its commitment to comprehensive development support in Yemen. By focusing on critical sectors like health and education through projects like the King Salman Medical and Educational City Project, SDRPY aims to foster sustainable growth in Yemen.
