King Salman Energy Park Inaugurates Smart Mobility Plant To Manufacture Electric Vehicle Chargers

King Salman Energy Park (SPARK) has launched a new Smart Mobility plant dedicated to producing electric vehicle (EV) chargers. This facility also includes the first EV charging station within SPARK. The event was attended by SPARK CEO Mishal Al-Zughaibi and Smart Mobility CEO Prince Fahad bin Nawaf at the park's headquarters in Abqaiq.

The establishment of this plant is a significant move towards enhancing Saudi Arabia's industrial localization strategy. It aligns with the Made in Saudi Program, which is governed by the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority (LCGPA). This initiative aims to boost local content in various industries.

Al-Zughaibi highlighted that SPARK is set to become a central hub for advanced industrial and energy technologies in the region. Its strategic location near the Kingdom’s main energy infrastructure and access to Arabian Gulf ports facilitates an integrated manufacturing and export corridor.

SPARK's mission is to empower investors to develop long-term industrial capabilities within Saudi Arabia. This vision supports the Kingdom's broader goals of economic diversification and technological advancement.

Prince Fahad bin Nawaf emphasized that establishing the plant at SPARK was a carefully considered decision. He stated that EV charging infrastructure should be developed as part of the national energy system, reflecting its importance as a component of national infrastructure.

He further explained that for the EV-charging network to grow effectively, it must be integrated with Saudi Arabia’s key national energy assets. This integration is crucial for ensuring reliable expansion across the country.

Global Mobility Trends

The global shift towards electric vehicles was also addressed by Prince Fahad. He mentioned discussions from the recent EV Auto Show Riyadh, which highlighted the necessity of transitioning to EVs as part of global mobility trends.

SPARK serves as a primary hub for energy, logistics, and industrial innovation in Saudi Arabia. The park plays a pivotal role in supporting these sectors' growth and development within the Kingdom.

This initiative marks an important step in advancing Saudi Arabia's industrial capabilities while aligning with global trends in sustainable mobility solutions.
