King Abdulaziz University Clinches Gold With Innovative Environmental Project At ICAN 2024

King Abdulaziz University secured the gold medal at the 9th International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada (iCAN 2024). Competing with a scientific research paper against over 700 participants, the university also received a special international award from the World Invention Intellectual Property Associations (WIIPA) and the award for Best Presentation.

The "Fasyla" project, which earned the gold medal, was developed by team members Hassan Marji Al-Sulami from the Faculty of Engineering in Rabigh, Omar Jamal Bahassan from the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Muath Abdullah Al-Nifaie from the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, Faisal Ali Al-Qabsani from the Faculty of Sciences, and Abdulaziz Muteb Al-Qattan from the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology in Rabigh. This innovative system engages users in environmental work through advanced technology using AI and LiDAR.

The "Fasyla" system guides users on proper planting methods and identifies areas suitable for cultivation based on city targets. Users earn points for their efforts, which can be exchanged for valuable prizes through partnerships with various companies and cooperating entities. This integration of corporate efforts and social responsibility initiatives aims to contribute to global climate goals.

The team plans to present their project to the National Center for Vegetation Cover and Combating Desertification at an upcoming international forum. The event, titled "Corporate Social Responsibility: For a Sustainable Future," is scheduled to take place in Riyadh on October 28.

This achievement highlights King Abdulaziz University's commitment to innovation and sustainability. The "Fasyla" project exemplifies how technology can be harnessed to promote environmental responsibility across all segments of society.
