King Abdulaziz Public Library Launches Initiative To Enhance Cultural Tourism In Saudi Arabia

The King Abdulaziz Public Library (KAPL) has unveiled a cultural initiative to elevate Saudi Arabia as a leading global cultural tourism destination. This aligns with Vision 2030, aiming to strengthen national identity and promote sustainable development. The project seeks to attract international visitors to KAPL's branches, both domestically and internationally, showcasing the Kingdom's rich heritage and traditions.

Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muammar, General Supervisor of KAPL, highlighted the library's commitment to advancing Saudi Arabia’s cultural and tourism goals. He stated that the initiative reflects the Kingdom’s blend of authenticity and modernity, promoting coexistence and acceptance of diverse cultures worldwide. The library aims to deepen citizens' connections to their cultural roots while contributing to economic diversification.

KAPL’s approach extends beyond traditional library offerings by providing access to historical manuscripts, rare documents, global historical images, artistic icons, and miniatures from various eras. This broadens the scope of cultural tourism beyond conventional means. The library's legacy in cultural engagement dates back to the 1990s with significant events like the Al-Andalus Symposium and the Islam and Dialogue of Civilizations Symposium.

These landmark events attracted participants globally, establishing KAPL as a hub for cultural tourism. Additionally, initiatives such as the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Award for Translation and the Unified Arab Index Project have enhanced its global visibility. These efforts draw visitors to its branches, further solidifying its role in promoting Saudi culture on an international stage.

A notable example of KAPL’s international influence is its branch at Peking University in China. This branch serves as a cultural bridge between Arab-Islamic and Chinese civilizations, highlighting KAPL’s pivotal role in fostering global cultural interactions.
