Advanced Cranes Arrive At King Abdulaziz Port To Boost Efficiency
King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, represented by its strategic partner Saudi Global Ports (SGP), has received three quay cranes (QC) with automated operation capabilities and three rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTG). This addition brings the total number of QCs to 18 and RTGs to 50, enhancing the port's infrastructure to efficiently handle giant ships.
The new cranes can reach at least 25 rows, accommodating advanced and large ships with full productivity and high efficiency. This development aligns with SGP's commitment to transforming King Abdulaziz Port into a competitive and sustainable global hub. This is in accordance with the SAR7 billion commercial outsourcing contracts signed with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani).

SGP collaborates with Mawani to boost operations by honing cadres' skills in using modern cranes. This initiative strengthens Saudi ports and Saudi Arabia's growing role in the global logistics services chain. It aligns with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, aiming to solidify the Kingdom's standing as a global logistics hub bridging three continents.
Outsourcing projects at King Abdulaziz Port contribute to providing more than 4,000 job opportunities. This supports efforts by the Saudi Ports Authority to improve the ports and logistics sector, increase supply chain reliability, boost national imports and exports, and improve the Kingdom's ranking in international indices.
The strategic enhancements at King Abdulaziz Port are part of broader efforts to position Saudi Arabia as a key player in global logistics. The new equipment not only boosts operational efficiency but also underscores the Kingdom's commitment to modernising its infrastructure.
These developments are expected to have a significant impact on the port's capacity to handle larger vessels, thereby increasing throughput and operational efficiency. The focus on skill development ensures that the workforce is well-equipped to manage advanced machinery, further enhancing productivity.
The introduction of these cranes marks a step forward in achieving the goals set out in Saudi Arabia's National Transport and Logistics Strategy. By improving port infrastructure and operations, the Kingdom aims to become a pivotal logistics hub that connects Asia, Europe, and Africa.
In summary, King Abdulaziz Port's latest upgrades signify a major leap towards enhancing its capabilities and competitiveness on a global scale. The collaboration between SGP and Mawani highlights a concerted effort to advance Saudi Arabia's logistics sector, creating job opportunities and boosting economic growth.
