Dammam's King Abdulaziz Port Achieves Historic Container Throughput Milestone
The King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam has achieved a new milestone by handling 20,645 TEUs on the COSCO SHIPPING AQUARIUS 036E. This record highlights the port's crucial role in trade and logistics, aligning with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS) to establish Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub.
Continuous infrastructure expansion is a priority at King Abdulaziz Port. In 2024, the port received 21 quay cranes (QC) and RTG cranes through commercial contracts between Mawani and Saudi Global Ports (SGP), valued at SAR7 billion. These enhancements aim to boost the port's capacity significantly.

A notable contract was signed between SGP and Chinese heavy equipment manufacturer SANY to supply 80 electric trucks. This agreement represents SANY's largest single contract globally for electric truck manufacturing and supply, further modernising the port's operations.
The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has been instrumental in enhancing operational efficiency at King Abdulaziz Port. These efforts have helped maintain the port's competitive edge, ensuring it remains a vital gateway for goods entering the eastern and central regions of Saudi Arabia.
In May 2024, King Abdulaziz Port set another record by handling 292,612 TEUs. This achievement underscores the port's growing capacity and its importance in global trade routes.
Strategic Location and Connectivity
King Abdulaziz Port is strategically connected by rail to the Riyadh dry port, facilitating seamless transportation of goods across regions. The port boasts 43 fully equipped berths with a handling capacity of up to 105 million tons of cargo and containers annually.
This extensive infrastructure supports the Kingdom's ambition to become a leading logistics hub, enhancing trade efficiency and connectivity within the region.
The recent achievements at King Abdulaziz Port reflect its pivotal role in supporting Saudi Arabia's logistics sector. Continuous investments in infrastructure and technology ensure that the port remains competitive on a global scale.
