Islamic Affairs Minister Launches Final Round Of King Abdulaziz Quran Contest

The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al Al-Sheikh, inaugurated the final qualifiers of the 44th King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorization, Recitation, and Interpretation of the Holy Quran at the Grand Mosque. This event is under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

During his speech at the opening ceremony, Al Al-Sheikh welcomed 173 contestants from 123 countries. He expressed pride in hosting this significant international competition named after King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud. He emphasized that the ministry is honoured to facilitate an event that fosters honest competition among Muslims and strengthens young people's connection to the Holy Quran.

Al Al-Sheikh highlighted that clear and announced rules have been established for arbitration to ensure justice and transparency. "The ministry has been keen that this competition is at the highest standards," he said. This year’s jury includes experts from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Mali, and Pakistan.

The chairman of the competition jury, Dr. Fahd bin Faraj Al-Juhani, praised the efforts of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in supporting the Holy Quran. He acknowledged the minister's role in organizing a competition that aligns with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 by incorporating modern technology in assessments.

This year's competition has attracted a record number of participants since its inception in 1978. The increasing turnout each year reflects Saudi Arabia's esteemed position among Muslims worldwide. Winners will receive prizes totaling SAR4,000,000, with additional financial gifts amounting to SAR1,000,000 distributed to all contestants.

Al Al-Sheikh prayed for God's grace upon King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud for his dedication to Islam and Muslims. He also thanked King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their continuous support towards the Holy Quran and Muslims globally.

Event Atmosphere

The opening ceremony saw a large attendance of officials, contestants with their companions, visitors to the Grand Mosque including Umrah performers and worshippers. The jury listened to several recitations by participants representing five divisions of the competition in a pious atmosphere filled with beautiful Quranic recitations.

Al-Juhani mentioned that jurors were chosen based on clear criteria ensuring fairness in evaluations. He noted that modern technology would be employed during assessments as part of Vision 2030 initiatives.

The Minister prayed for divine guidance for judges and success for contestants while appreciating their efforts. He expressed gratitude towards God Almighty for His blessings on this righteous endeavour.

The event underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to promoting Islamic values through such prestigious competitions. It highlights the Kingdom's role in fostering religious education and unity among Muslims worldwide.
