King Abdulaziz Camel Festival Significantly Boosts Economic Activity In GCC Camel Markets

The King Abdulaziz Camel Festival has notably enhanced the economic landscape of camel markets within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The ninth edition of this festival draws camel enthusiasts from all GCC nations, making it a significant event for those interested in camel heritage.

Ayed Al-Mutairi, an expert in camel auctions, noted that the auction improves yearly regarding prices, participation, and the quality and variety of camels available. He emphasised that this event attracts camel lovers from both GCC countries and the wider Arab world. Al-Mutairi told the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) about the auction's economic importance, highlighting its profitability for investors and breeders. He added that camel prices remain reasonable due to high demand and government support for this traditional Arab heritage.

Camel Festival Enhances GCC Economic Activity

The camel auction at Al-Sayahid is a major economic centre for camel sales, accessories, feed, transportation, and related services linked to this global heritage. Participants include enthusiasts, herders, and traders from various Arab nationalities. This diverse gathering underscores the auction's significance as a hub for cultural exchange and commerce.

Haji Al-Ghaithi travelled from northern Saudi Arabia's Hail region to join the festival. His participation highlights the festival's appeal across different regions within Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Mohammed Al-Subaie expressed his gratitude to the organisers for providing essential services for breeders near grazing areas. These services include access to feed and vaccinations for their camels.

The Camel Club in Al-Sayahid has set up a dedicated area for camel sales as part of the festival activities. This space has become a focal point for enthusiasts and breeders from Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries. Tents and pens for exhibitors cover a five-kilometre stretch, accommodating numerous participants eager to showcase their camels.

The festival not only celebrates camel heritage but also serves as an economic catalyst by boosting trade in related sectors. Its impact on local economies is evident through increased activity in markets associated with camels. The event continues to grow in popularity each year, drawing more participants and visitors who contribute to its vibrant atmosphere.
