Khorfakkan Marine Festival's Second Edition Celebrates UAE's Rich Maritime Heritage And Culture
The Khorfakkan Marine Festival's second edition commenced with great enthusiasm. It is held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah. The festival began on Friday evening at Khorfakkan Beach, with Sheikh Saeed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Ruler's Office in Khorfakkan, attending the opening.
The festival is organised by the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club and aims to celebrate marine culture and heritage. Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the club, delivered a speech highlighting its significance. He stated that the event reflects the UAE's rich history and strengthens Sharjah’s cultural identity, aligning with H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi's vision.

Visitors can enjoy a range of activities showcasing Khorfakkan’s vibrant heritage. These include thrilling marine sports, traditional handicrafts, and cultural events. The festival also welcomes participation from eight countries, enhancing international cooperation and enriching the event's offerings.
The opening ceremony featured performances like "Pearls in the Heart of the Emirates" by Sajaya Girls of Sharjah and an operetta titled "Simulating Marine Life in the City of Khorfakkan." These performances added a cultural touch to the festivities, drawing attention to local traditions.
Sheikh Saeed bin Saqr Al Qasimi toured various pavilions after the ceremony. These pavilions showcased traditional industries, marine museums, and displays of heritage food and industrial products. The exhibits provided insights into local craftsmanship and historical practices.
The festival runs until 5th January 2025, offering numerous events such as traditional marine crafts demonstrations like shipbuilding, net spinning, and gargoor making. These activities highlight skills passed down through generations.
Competitions and Championships
In addition to cultural displays, visitors can witness exciting competitions. The festival includes fishing contests, the UAE Shawahif Championship, and the Formula 4 Championship. Modern sports like Olympic rowing and kayaking are also part of the lineup.
Khalid Jassim Al Midfa emphasised that this festival is more than just an event; it is a celebration of marine culture that showcases Khorfakkan’s vibrant heritage while fostering international cooperation through participation from multiple countries.
