Khawla Art & Culture Collaborates With Japanese Embassy For A Unique Calligraphy Exhibition
The cultural landscape of Abu Dhabi is currently being enriched by a notable calligraphy exhibition, a collaborative effort between Khawla Art and Culture and the Japanese Embassy in the UAE. This event, which commenced yesterday at the headquarters of Khawla Art and Culture in Abu Dhabi, is set to run until April 30th. It serves as a testament to the strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect that exist between Japan and the UAE.
At the heart of the opening ceremony were key figures such as the Japanese Ambassador to the UAE, Akio Isomata, Dr. Lamees Al Qaisi, Director-General of Khawla Art and Culture, alongside various art personalities and members of the Japanese community residing in Abu Dhabi. The exhibition is distinguished by two exceptional pieces, "Peace" and "Harmony, Respect, Purity and Tranquillity," which are the fruits of a collaboration between H.H. Sheikha Khawla Bint Ahmed Khalifa Al-Suwaidi and renowned Japanese calligrapher Yoshikawa Juichi.
Beyond these collaborative pieces, visitors can also admire a collection of individual artworks by Yoshikawa that showcase his extraordinary skill and mastery over the art of calligraphy. These works not only highlight his talent but also offer insights into Japanese calligraphy's evolution and its cultural heritage.
Sheikha Khawla has articulated that this exhibition aligns with Khawla Art & Culture's mission to bolster the UAE's status as a global cultural hub and a cradle for creativity. The initiative aims to bring together talents from across the globe, fostering an environment where writers, thinkers, researchers, and artists can thrive. She lauded Yoshikawa's contributions to the exhibition, noting how his works illuminate aspects of Japanese heritage through calligraphy.
In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Dr. Lamees Al Qaisi expressed her enthusiasm about the exhibition, highlighting it as a confluence of Japanese calligraphic art with Sheikha Khawla Al Suwaidi's visual creativity. She underscored the significance of this unique collaboration between Yoshikawa and Sheikha Khawla Al Suwaidi, both of whom are celebrated figures in the art world. This exhibition not only marks a significant cultural exchange but also underscores the deep-seated connections and mutual appreciation between Japan and the UAE.
The event is a clear indication of Khawla Art & Culture's dedication to enriching the artistic landscape of the UAE by hosting international artists and showcasing diverse art forms. It reflects an ongoing commitment to cultural diplomacy and international cooperation through the universal language of art.
